ACADEMIC CAMP AT FOREST GLEN

We had an intensive SAT, Math League, Mathcounts, and Foreign Language Preparation Camp at Forest Glen in order to get better prepared for the future tests and competitions. Through the camp experience, we aimed to provide a mix of outdoor and educational activities. We expect to have more of such events in the future to support our students socially as well as academically.

FUNDRAISING FOR A GUIDED READING PROGRAM AND ISWEEEP 2009
We have our library up and running thanks to our parents and teachers invaluable contributions. We already purchased Accelerated Reader program to monitor the reading pattern and level of our students. Our parents are able to keep track of their kids reading online by means of AR program as well. However, AR itself is not enough for our teachers to incorporate their daily lesson plans with the readings of our students. read more . . .We needed a guided reading program for this purpose. So far, our teachers were using an online guided reading program which was providing limited help in this regard, in addition to a good deal of time that they spent in front of the copier to make multiple copies of different online books. Fortunately, there is a guided reading program (RIGBY) available for our teachers use which will make their life much easier to increase your childs reading level much easier and faster. However, we did not foresee the need for such a program assuming that AR is to suffice and did not allocate the fund, which turned out to be ,000, in our budget for this school year and we dont want to wait for another year to purchase it. That is why we are going to organize different fundraising activities by the end of January 2009 to purchase a complete set, if we can raise ,000 or more, otherwise, a customized set. Any amount above ,000 will be used to support ISWEEEP 2009, which is one of the two top international science fairs, organized by our parent organization, Cosmos Foundation, Inc.
This weeks fundraising activity is Dollars and Penny Drive Contest between homerooms. Any cash or coin amount is acceptable. The homeroom that raises the most money per student by 5:30pm on Friday the 5th will win a free dress day on Monday the 8th. As a part of this fundraising activity, a group of PTO members will be outside to collect your contributions during dismissal on Friday the 5th or you can come in and make your contribution at the front desk at any time at your convenience. We will announce the amount raised weekly on our website. Thank you for your kindly support in this matter. For more information, you can contact Mr. Tekin.

SECOND ANNUAL SCIENCE FAIR AT HSA BCS

We had our second annual Science Fair on November, the 15th. This year we had 136 individual and team projects.
Parent, teacher, student cooperation made this event a huge success. All students deserve a big congratulation! for the amazing job they did prior and during Science Fair. Judges, we had around 40 of them most of which were professors or PhD students at Texas A&M, were very impressed with the talents the students presented to them.
Our PTO diligently worked to decorate the school before the Science Fair, provide the food for the day and our parents were very generous about donating the food to support the school.
Our parents were very responsive about recruiting the judges. Without their help, we would not be able to recruit so many highly qualified judges. All of the students are the winners.
